tried @20240831
omnifoods plant based fish products
these hv been introduced in market for a few years already
now it's time I finally try it
...
got 3 frozen products to try
they are: classic fillet & golden fillet & ocean fingers
use a water heating method (aka boiling)
...
the classic fillet is alright wif boiling
though much oil releases once dropped into water.. they won't fall apart
the taste is good.. juz right seasoned n not so salty
n got a flavour quite like fish fillet
the texture is a bit chewy.. not as tender as fish flesh.. but more like minced chicken in my opinion
...
the golden fillet
the inner flesh.. taste n texture juz exactly the same
for the batter it's juz melt in water n make the water cloudy
coz it's designed for deep frying.. using water to heat it up juz make things messy
the case is juz like boiling Japanese tempura.. then the batter fall apart
...
the ocean fingers
the appearance n aroma is almost the same as typical fish fingers
the batter is of a different style
n yet.. heating it wif water juz same messy like the experience of golden fillet
when the batter melted into water.. will make water flour-y n thus getting sticky on pan
except for the batter part.. the flesh juz got the same taste n texture as the other two products
n this it's a chewier fish fingers than those I can remember
...
overall these plant based fish products are fine to try.. but not that great for me to encore
taste good on its own
n wif a flavour quite similar to fish fillet
yet...
the texture is a bit more chewy than expected
n juz not as tender n flakey as those steamed fish I used to hv
moreover.. the battered ones are not convenient to cook (as I usually cook wif water only)
=========================
besides the frozen plant based fish products
also hv tried the omnituna, a canned plant based tuna flakes
tried on 20240830.. yet without detailed product pics
...
the flesh is soaked wif much oil in can
once opened
the colour n outlook n aroma are very similar to that of typical canned tuna
bite into
the taste can resemble the real tuna well
for the texture
its juz a bit more chewy springy than the real tuna in my memory
n it's not as flakey as typical tuna flakes too
overall
the convenience of the product
n the great savory fish-like flavour worth me to try it again
but juz that a big drawback is that it's very oily in can
